In addition to mechanical changes (slot width, mounting points), the sensor has also become even better protected against dirt and water (IP 66). On the <a href=\"https:\/\/idbike.com\/sensors\/\">Website<\/a> I|D Bike writes the following about the newer model (for Stromer, the P211 and P218):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The TMM4 sensor has a robust design.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To ensure a long service life, IDbike has subjected the TMM4 sensor to rigorous testing under extreme conditions. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The sensor is:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fully coated with a special resin, making it resistant to moisture, dust and salt.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tested in salt water for at least a week and continued to function normally.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completely semiconductor-based, i.e. no moving parts and no wear and tear over time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-image hb-magnify\"><div class=\"hb-magnify__large\"><\/div><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"hb-magnify__small\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.stromer-tech.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-1.png\" width=\"720\"\/><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"b7730527-0470-4685-b310-c63bfff9e97f\">When I|D bike, the manufacturer, was asked about the P178 sensor, the answer was as follows:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\" style=\"font-size:15px\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Originally, our TMM4 sensors never had any visible protection. Our conformal coating is so robust and durable that it can easily withstand various types of continuous salt spray tests (24\/7 underwater) for more than 3 weeks. Furthermore, in the more than 12 years of TMM4 history, we have seen sensors packed with grease, oil, dirt, sand and other stuff, and generally this has never affected the function of the sensor. Still, OEM customers and dealers kept asking the same question: \"Do we need protection?\" It seemed like we weren't able to get our message across. When we finally started implementing the QR code years ago, we decided to combine the two things: 1. the sticker on the back is the carrier of the QR code and 2. it can stop the demand for some kind of visible protection.<br><em><br><\/em>Jan Goes \/ I|D bike - 2020<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"3ca6cd05-d997-44d3-85eb-ff4c70eb778c\">From a technical standpoint, the adhesive is therefore not necessary. Nevertheless, <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stromer-tech.info\/en\/knowledge-base\/details-and-technical-data\/\">heavy soiling<\/a> a possible cause of error and can interfere with the sensor's operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-info\">The QR code sticker code only contains an article designation. In practice, it detaches quite often. As a spare part, it is for the ST5 2018 | ST3 | ST2 6V | ST2 S 6V | ST1 X 6V <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.stromer-bike.de\/products\/tmm-sensor-sticker?_pos=1&amp;_psq=TMM&amp;_ss=e&amp;_v=1.0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>&nbsp;available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Alternative to glue<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alternatively, after thoroughly cleaning the disc, the adhesive can be replaced with simple black electrician's tape. However, it did not improve the sensor's somewhat temperamental behavior. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the latest with the new models P211 and P218, this DIY method is obsolete.
