BLDC is a marketing term for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Drehstrommaschine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Three-phase machines<\/a>which draw the AC voltage required for their operation from an electronic circuit that is connected to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gleichspannung\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DC voltage<\/a>\u00a0is supplied. In contrast to a simple\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gleichstrommaschine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Direct current machine<\/a>\u00a0with carbon brushes is a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Drehstrom-Synchronmaschine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Three-phase synchronous machine<\/a>\u00a0with excitement through\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Permanentmagnet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Permanent magnets<\/a>. The three-phase winding is controlled by a suitable circuit in such a way that it generates a traveling magnetic field which pulls the permanently excited rotor along. Control is achieved through Pulse Width Modulation (PWM 1 to PWM 6), which varies the width of the voltage pulses to activate the motor windings in a specific sequence. There are three of them with the following tasks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Feedback:<\/strong>&nbsp;The Hall sensors provide feedback to the controller, which enables precise control and regulation of the motor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Position detection:&nbsp;<\/strong>Hall sensors detect the position of the rotor in the motor based on the magnetic field generated by the rotor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Commutation:&nbsp;<\/strong>The information provided by the Hall sensors is used by the controller to activate the correct windings of the stator. Activating the correct windings generates a magnetic field that causes the rotor to turn.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Speed detection:&nbsp;<\/strong>The Hall sensors can also be used to determine the speed of the motor by counting the number of Hall signals per time period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"5aeef81a-3609-4107-a53d-b40769ca6ad9\"><strong>Temperature sensor:<\/strong>&nbsp;A thermistor is used to protect the motor from overheating. A thermistor (short for&nbsp;<em>Thermal resistor<\/em>) is a temperature-dependent electrical resistance whose resistance value changes greatly depending on the temperature. There are two types:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol id=\"f0df600a-bf83-45a3-ac04-68561902d17b\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>NTC thermistor (Negative Temperature Coefficient): The resistance decreases as the temperature rises.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PTC thermistor (Positive Temperature Coefficient): The resistance increases as the temperature rises.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"e0fa498b-037b-4776-adeb-10d2baa6828c\">Stromer uses an NTC thermistor. The protective function of the motor is activated at approx. 135-140 \u00b0C. The power is first reduced and support is stopped at 150 \u00b0C until the temperature value has fallen below the critical threshold again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1da5db9d-54fe-42e2-92b8-626928cf5c76\">Components used:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul id=\"09ed2417-b306-4ddb-bb76-5cf1bb5dea65\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hall sensor:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ch.farnell.com\/honeywell\/ss461r\/hall-effect-sensor-bipolar-to\/dp\/1735770?gclid=CjwKCAjwr_CnBhA0EiwAci5sisX3NRnZ6f8VUCnrzSbM64CpQ2OAvS8nhSiSgpN5tgeS9xQMWzbAMhoCUqoQAvD_BwE&amp;mckv=srIAHPzwY_dc|pcrid|258630195517|kword|ss461r-|match|p|plid||slid||product||pgrid|52946900284|ptaid|kwd-1071934589943|&amp;CMP=KNC-GCH-GEN-SKU-MDC-German-Test-935-Max-Conversion-value\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Honeywell SS461R<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thermistor: NTC, 10 k\u03a9 (25 \u00b0C and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/telemeter.info\/media\/productattachments\/files\/t\/e\/temperatursensoren_telemeter-electronic.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Beta value<\/a>&nbsp;~3500) - 15 k\u03a9<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MOSFET (power semiconductor) on the controller:<br>Ex. ST1x, ASI Controller: 10 pcs 1290 BV6319 | 2 pcs 1290 BV6U11<br><br>A possible replacement is an IRFB4110, for example:<br>- N-Channel FET<br>- VDSS of 100V (min. 80 V)<br>- RDS on, as low as possible &lt;10 m\u03a9<br>- Diode over DS<br>- I max. &gt;100A<br>- Housing TO220<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-info\">The ASI controllers from around 2018 onwards are potted and no longer repairable. Earlier models only have a protective coating.
