Vanwege de constructie is de warmteafvoer van de poolwikkelingen gecompliceerd (luchtspouw tussen rotor en stator). Vooral bij rijprofielen met lange en\/of steile hellingen toont dit de grenzen van het systeem. Door de lagere draaisnelheid verliest de motor steeds meer aan koelcapaciteit en loopt het risico om thermisch \u201ete verstikken\u201c (Thermal Runaway). Stromer voorkomt dit door het zogenaamde Thermal Throttling \u2013 een vermindering van de ondersteuning door de controller.
