Switching systems
Throughout the model development, Stromer has used various drive systems, gear ratios, and shifting systems. These include: Shimano, Sturmey Archer, Pinion, and Schlumpf.
Gears
For models with chain drive, the number of available gears ranges from 5 to 27 depending on the model. Various cassettes and up to three chainrings are used.
The models with Pinion gears are equipped with the C-Line gears C 1.6, C 1.9, and C 1.12 with 6, 9, and 12 gears respectively.
The Sturmey-Archer gear hub on the ST2 Belt has 5 gears.
The Schumpf „Speed Drive“ gearbox was used on the ST1t and ST1s from 2016/2017. With the installed Shimano XT 9-speed cassette, it offered a doubling from 9 to 18 gears.
Chainring wear
Wear in the drivetrain is most noticeable on the chain and sprockets, specifically in the most commonly used long gears. The frequently used combination of a 52T chainring with an 11-42T cassette (ST1 2019 and ST1 LCI / ST3 / ST5 / ST5 ABS) features a Gossamer Gear chainring with Narrow/Wide teeth.

The bottom bracket is in the splash zone of the front wheel. Here are a few pictures that necessitate the replacement of the bottom bracket (often also referred to as the inner bearing) as well as the bottom bracket spindle.

B. here or here. (ca. € 60)
When using alternative chainrings (specifically ST3/ST5), it must be noted that the bulge (red arrow) is large enough. With the DECKAS 130 BCD shown above, it is too small, which is why the original chain guard cannot be mounted.

A suitable chainring could be ALITE 5-ARM 52T to be (not tested)

Bottom bracket: The FSA MegaExo BB-7100 The V-Drive NBD (No Pinch Bolt Design) bottom bracket is not available as a spare part from Stromer, but can be purchased from various online shops. A possible alternative to FSA is a Shimano Saint SM-BB80 (Shell Width= 83 mm)

FSA Gossamer ck-6028/73 Crankset The bottom bracket axle (ISIS mount, Ø 24 mm) with chainring mount (BCD 130 mm) and right crank arm, as well as the left crank arm (FSA Gossamer CK-6028 Double, 170 mm) can only be purchased as an original set from a Stromer dealer, e.g. shop.stromer-bike.de or Fratello.bike to be related.

Crank bolt: The bolt on the left crank arm has an M17 thread and an 8mm hex socket. The aluminum lockring measures M27×1 mm and has a left-hand thread (LH). The domed spacer is marked MW497, the second MW080.
The set is a self-extracting construction. Self-extraction means that the left crank arm can be removed with an 8 mm Allen key without loosening the lockring.
