Brakes - General

There can be a lot of discussion about brake systems on S-Pedelecs. Whether brand A or B, whether 2 or 4 piston brakes, whether sintered or organic pads, all are popular and controversial topics.

In order to steer the Stromer discussion in the right direction, one thing must be taken into account. Stromers are not MTBs, not 'mountain goats' or gravel bikes. They are intended for fast commuting from A to B and are designed accordingly. Commuter bikes are not about 50 g weight savings on the rear derailleur or full carbon frames. However, safety is the top priority, because 45 km/h is not 25 km/h. The bikes are therefore also quite heavy, as they are solidly constructed, and have powerful braking systems. In 2021, Stromer was the first brand ever to implement ABS on the front wheel on its top model at the time, the ST5.
