There's a lot that can be discussed about brake systems on S-pedelecs. Whether it's brand A or B, 2-piston or 4-piston brakes, sintered or organic pads – these are all popular and controversially discussed topics.
To steer the discussion about Stromer in the right direction, the intended use of a Stromer needs to be considered. Stromer bikes are not MTBs, not „mountain goats,“ or gravel bikes. They are designed and constructed for fast commuting from A to B. Commuter bikes are not about a 50g weight saving on the derailleur, nor are they about full carbon frames. However, safety is paramount, as 45 km/h is not 25 km/h. The bikes are therefore quite heavy – massively constructed – and have powerful braking systems. As the first brand ever, Stromer implemented ABS on the front wheel in its then-top model ST5 in 2021.
