Quiet click
With the Pinion in the C1.9 and C1.12, a soft click may be audible in 9th or 12th gear. As Pinion confirms, this is not a malfunction but is due to the type of construction. See page 2 in 'General information on Pinion gearshifts‚.
Difficult switching under load
Pinion transmissions use two precise planetary sub-gears with several synchronized gears. Certain gear changes require more complex shifts between the planetary gears or synchronizer rings, which are more difficult to engage under load.
When upshifting, the speeds of the components involved (e.g. input and output shaft) must be synchronized. Pedal pressure increases the input speed, which makes synchronization more difficult. By releasing the pressure, the speeds are more easily equalized so that the synchronizer rings engage smoothly.
Pinion gives clear shifting recommendations in the User manual.
