ST5 - Di2 - charging socket, conversion in the handlebars

The installation location of the Di2 battery charging socket 'EW RS 910' on the early ST5 models (2018/2019) at the end of the seat tube and between the chainstays is very unfavorable. Plugging in the charging cable is difficult and often leads to bent pins in the charging socket. The following shows how to do it correctly Video.

Conversion kit

Stromer offers a 'conversion kit' which allows the junction box (with charging socket) to be moved to the right-hand end of the handlebar.

  • CV9Di2 (402488) Stromer Conversion Kit
  • Shimano eTube cable:
    • EW-SD50 800 mm - EWSD50L80 > not part of the kit
    • EW-SD50 1600 mm - KEWSD50IL160 > not part of the kit
  • There are instructions for converting the socket on the Stromer dealer portal. Ask your dealer for them.

If you need an ANT+ or BT connection to the Shimano eTube system (e.g. for FW upgrades or gear display on the ride computer), you may need to install a 'EW-WU111′ Retrofit the D-Fly wireless unit. This can be combined with the conversion.

Alternative

Alternatively, you can buy an 'EW-JC200' connector to connect the eTube cables to the old socket. Cover this with an 'EW RS 910' end cap. If available, remove the 'EW-WU111' Ant+/BT unit in the right handlebar end and fit the 'XT Di2 SC-MT800' display unit. The XTR SC-M9051 is too expensive and offers no advantages. The 'SC-MT800' offers additional benefits:

  • Ant+/BT connection for trip computer
  • Display of the engaged gear
  • Beep at the end and beginning of the switching range
  • Battery charging socket
  • Battery charge status
