Firmware problems

Firmware is not displayed

Stromer distributes firmware updates for the electronic components (OMNI-C, controller, batteries and power supply units, ABS) via OTA (Over the Air). The various FW versions are available on the myStromer AG service page with a short description.

The updates are distributed in waves, presumably according to the ABC of customer names. It can take up to two months for a new update listed on the website to arrive on your own Stromer.

As a user, there is no way to request and accelerate the update in Omni or the Omni app.

Alternatively, you can ask your electricity dealer to push the update, who also has the option of manually installing updates such as downgrades via the Omni's USB port.

Firmware download very slow

For older Stromers with Omni B/C and 2G/3G connectivity, it may take some time for the download of the new firmware to be completed. This is partly due to the size of an update, but also to the fact that in some countries the 3G network switched off and only the much slower 2G connection is available.

2G (GSM)9.6 kbit/s
3G (UMTS)384 kbit/s
4G (LTE Advanced (LTE-A from CAT 6)300 kbit/s
5G (based on LTE, network slicing)10 GBit/s

With a good 3G or 4G connection, downloading even a large update takes a few minutes at most. With 2G it can take 15-30 minutes. An interruption of the connection is not a problem, OTA continues the download where it left off.

The download progress can be tracked in the Omni via MENU > SYSTEM > ABOUT... or by tapping on the download icon. See also 'Firmware updates'.

If Autolock (Omni App > Configuration > Anti-theft protection) is deactivated, the Stromer goes into standby after 5 minutes. The firmware download is paused during this time. This can be prevented by pressing and holding a brake lever, for example.

Firmware hangs

It can happen that the download causes problems. This happened, for example, when the backend of the Stromer infrastructure malfunctioned in April 2025. The automatic distribution mechanism failed and updates were stuck in the queue for weeks. A faulty download cannot be ruled out either. This results in errors during installation and possible malfunctions in the components: Omni, battery, charger, controller or the ABS of blubrake. The solution is to install the FW manually - see info box above.

Update: With SUI FW 4.3.4.1 from 11.06.2021, the bootloader of the OMNI Interface B & C was updated to version 2019.01 (previously 2016.11). This fixes a bug which meant that the OMNI could no longer be started after an update.
