Chargers

Stromer offers/offered various Batteries and chargers on. A distinction must be made between the chargers for the old 36 V Stromer models (ST1, V1) and the 48 V models.

The 36 V models were available from High Power (HP8204L3 & HP0180WL3), which differed in terms of handling. They have an XLR 4-pin charging plug. To charge the battery outside the bike, you need a Adapter (item no. 213438). On sale today is the CN160 (EU approval).

48 V batteries have been used since around 2014 (ST2). They have a magnetic Rosenberger bush and are controlled via the CAN bus. Until around mid-2023, four different chargers were offered; as of 2025, it is still the CR246.

The CR190 / 245 were from Allsor Technology Co (Taiwan), the CR246 from Friwo (Made in Vietnam). The CR65 travel charger comes from the manufacturer pironex and is still on offer there. It costs CHF 209.- (as of 3-01-2024).

Only the CR245 (CR65) charger can be used to 'top up' batteries that may be deeply discharged.

Float charging is only possible with the CR246 charger when storing a Stromer battery.

According to Stromer, the CR245 & CR246 were not available in the USA. According to the old Stromer FAQ, the CR190 was only sold in the USA. However, this information may not be correct.

Charging the battery in the Stromer with the CR245 & CR190 charger is only possible for models with the EDS MCS Controller from FW SUI 4.4.3.10 (20.11.2024) is supported.

Alternatives?

48 V models: The Stromer CRx chargers are specially manufactured for Stromer. The 48 V models communicate with the battery via the CAN bus and use the magnetic charging plug from Rosenberger, shown on the right. These have a different PIN spacing than plugs for non-Stromer 36 V systems, e.g. E-bike, scooterleft.

Once upon a time there was an alternative! The Swiss startup KOULOMBUS built the power charger around 2020/2021 Silent X-1 (S1-x).

It offered options that the original Stromer chargers did not have:

• Fanless
• Reading the SOC
• Reading out the SoH
• Adapt the charging process, e.g. only charge at a battery temperature below or above ... °C
• Limitation of the charging stroke from e.g. 20 - 80%
• WLAN connection with readout of charging data

KOULOMBUS stopped working after a short time and with newer FW updates of the BQ.... batteries, the chargers no longer worked.

Conclusion: There are currently no alternatives for the CRxxx 48 V models.

36 V models: For the two Stromer 36 V models from High Power (HP8204L3 & HP0180WL3), the Enerpower (3 A) or the E-Bike Vision (4 A) are available as alternatives.

Fast chargers?

Fast charging in the sense of CCS, as with electric cars, is not available for the 48 V models and would also not be in the interests of battery longevity. All Stromer chargers charge the batteries gently and, depending on the model, in a time window of 3.5 - 7.5 hours using the CC/CV method. For the 36 V models, there are alternative providers with higher charging currents, but they do not offer fast charging either.

A potential dealer of the Rosenberger plugs and sockets is offered by MOUSER electronics, for example. You can also DIY a wicket cable (Stromer no. 402336) and convert it into a charging plug.
