Specialist articles on lithium-ion battery technology sometimes provide different recommendations for battery maintenance. This is partly because there are different types of lithium batteries. Almost exclusively NMC 811 chemistry lithium-ion batteries are used in e-bikes and pedelecs today.
Mechanical care
While the battery is a component that essentially consists of electrics and electronics, there are also physical care instructions to observe. These are in the Operating instructions of the wanderer or the Winter cleaning tips from Stromer.
The electro-mechanical connection of the charger, the charging socket on the Stromer, the battery, and the battery base in the battery compartment is realized by a magnetic connector from Rosenberger. It is repeatedly the cause of problems with the Stromer. For proper functioning, it must be free of dirt and corrosion.

Treatment in regular driving operation
- The battery can be fully recharged after every ride.
- Carry out as many partial charges as possible. The so-called flat (discharge) charging stroke increases the service life of the battery and you are always ready for the next ride. The battery does not have to be discharged every time. There is no memory effect.
- Do not run the battery completely empty and recharge it after a short period of use.
- Avoid charging below 0 °C and above 40 °C battery temperature and in hermetically sealed rooms. Stromer interrupts the charging process outside this temperature window.
- When there's a sudden temperature change from cold to warm, condensation can form in the battery compartment, leading to corrosion at the bottom of the Rosenberger connection.
- If the battery is very cold, let it warm up to room temperature before charging.
- Always place the charger on a safe and stable surface.
- Do not charge the battery if the housing of the battery or charger is cracked or broken in any way.
- If possible, do not run a very cold battery. Warm it up first. Otherwise, there is also a risk of condensation forming in the battery compartment. If you have to start with a cold battery, do so with moderate assistance until the battery has warmed up a bit from riding.
- Store the battery at room temperature, not on the bike, in very cold temperatures. Only install the battery in the Stromer for riding.

Treatment
- Opening the battery is prohibited
- The battery must be kept away from frost and heat, fire, sunlight, water and other liquids.
- Do not leave the Stromer in the sun for long periods in summer.
- Use a damp cloth to clean the battery, never use water or a high-pressure cleaner.
- Do not store with metal objects that can cause short circuits
Storage when not in use for an extended period
Look at the Safety instructions From electricity to the battery:
- Store the battery in or out of the bike at 10 – 15 °C. Turn off the Stromer if the battery is inserted in the Stromer.
- Use frost-free and dry places for storage, such as basement rooms, the garage, or a well-insulated shed.
- Store the battery with a state of charge (SoC) between 40% and 80%.
- Check the charge level at regular intervals. When stored properly, the Stromer battery loses approximately 11% of its state of charge (SoC) per week.
- Use the CR246 charger, which contains the Suspended load permitted.

ST7 - BQ1440
The battery goes into a gentle sleep mode depending on the charge status and rest time. It starts after:
– 7 days, if the charge level SoC <10% or after
– 90 days, if SoC charge level is < 80%
The sleep mode can only be ended by connecting the charger.
