Omni symbols

In addition to 2G/3G/4G, the 4G Omni can also be used for "NB" are above the field strength (signal strength). What does this mean?

NB stands for NB-IoT and means "Narrow Band Internet of Things".

NB-IoT is used in the areas of smart metering, asset tracking, environmental monitoring, smart cities and industrial IoT, where low power consumption and reliable connectivity are crucial.

Why is „NB“ now displayed? The reason is that the device in question has logged into a mobile network that is not available for the Long battery life and the Transmission of small data packets is optimized - and not for surfing the internet or streaming videos. For these IoT tasks, 4G would be far too energy-intensive, expensive and oversized. NB-IoT is the lean, efficient and cost-effective special solution for machine communication.

At Stromer, it is a fallback variant. It was developed with the FW-SUI 4.4.3.3 (20-11-2023) was introduced, is probably used when there is no or very poor mobile phone connection and presumably also serves to protect against theft. However, I am not aware of any further details. The release notes only say:

Various optimizations:
…..
Support for NB-IoT fallback has been added, Comm module FW 4.6.9.4 required.
