ST5 - Failure of both brake sensors

Error description

Shortly after switching on the Stromer, the two reed contacts in the brake levers no longer work. If you are lucky, you will be able to access the service menu briefly and check the sensors without any problems. Then the brake sensors no longer work and the assistance switches off while driving due to the missing brake sensors. The following message appears on the OMNI: 'The brake sensors could not be deactivated. For safety reasons, the assistance is switched off. Check the connection between the brake sensor and the OMNI display'.

Cause

On the early ST5 models, the distribution board was still located in the stem. Condensation often formed in the stem or water penetrated through the non-waterproof cover of the stem. The distribution board corroded and led to connection problems between the individual peripheral devices and the OMNI.

Solution

In the newer batches of the ST5 (approx. from 2020), a new version of the distribution board was used which was housed in the head tube. Stromer offers a conversion kit which is best installed by a dealer.
