After various corrosion problems with PCB-based distribution boards (ST1x / ST2 / ST2S and early ST5), the new boards are placed in the handlebar tube in molded form.

There is not a lot of space there and the cables have little room to maneuver. If everything is not optimally routed, cables can be damaged either in the feed-through to the stem, the handlebars (button ring / brake lever) or to the omni in the event of extreme handlebar deflection. The damage (here on an ST3) ranges from crushed to torn.

An initial check of the cables can be carried out via the screwed-on daytime running light. Unfortunately, not all cables are visible as long as the fork is not removed.
