Stromer bike communication for locking/unlocking/locating/updates runs via a GSM/UMTS (2G/3G) connection for all Stromer bikes with an OMNI display. This is also referred to as OTA (Over the Air).

Since February 2022, the Omni has also been available with LTE-M / 4G (Long Term Evolution for Machines) are offered. Compared to standard LTE, LTE-M uses a narrower frequency band. This increases the signal range and improves building penetration. LTE-M also supports energy-saving modes, which extends the battery life of IoT devices.

Which mobile provider does Stromer use - are there any costs?

Stromer uses an eSIM in the Omni. It is activated for an unlimited period of time, works worldwide and its use does not incur any data or roaming charges for the Stromer driver.

The mobile phone providers are selected according to the best possible network coverage. Although they have never been explicitly communicated to the public, due to corresponding Communications of myStromer AG With regard to grid shutdowns and the associated "omni-exchanges", the following conclusions can be drawn. 

Mobile operator for Stromer Omni in Europe (incl. Germany, Austria, Switzerland):

  • Swisscom (primarily in Switzerland)
  • Deutsche Telekom (in Germany and other EU countries)
  • Vodafone (depending on country)
  • Other local network operators (depending on the best coverage)
