General
- Stromer used the Supernova M99 Pro on the ST2S (Stromer Art. No. 400290) as well as the ST5/ST5 ABS and ST7 (Stromer Art. No. 401645). The ST5 Pinion is delivered with the M99 Pro 2 (Stromer Art. No. 404703). Since November 2023, the ST7 also receives the M99 Pro 2. The prerequisite is the EDS-MC3 controller, which has been installed in the ST7 since May 25, 2023.
- All models have connectors specifically adapted to Stromer.
- The ST2S M99 Pro uses Open-CANSource), the models for the ST5 (chain) & ST7 (before Nov. 2023) have the CAN bus. The Pro 2 does not have a CAN bus.
- The supply voltage of the Supernova M99 Pro is 48 V, and that of the M99 Pro2 is 12 V.
- The ST3 and ST5 have the same type approval (CoC) and the same controller in Germany, but not the same distribution board.Source)
- The controller used on the ST3 Pinion (EDS-MC3) has a JST connector for the Roxim Z4E as well as a JST connector for the M99 Pro.
- All models with M99 Pro 2 are operated in Mode 1 (= factory setting with low beam 8 W / high beam 16 W). This limits the light output to 1,600 or 1,870 lumens, respectively (Sources: 1 | 2 | 3).

The ST3 uses the same controller as the ST5, but not the same distribution board.

Conversion to M99 Pro 2Connection to the existing JST connector of the original Roxim Z4E Pro is possible, but the headlight mode cannot be activated via the control ring. The M99 Pro 2 must be operated in mode 1** due to the limited power at the JST connector.
The simplest solution is to power the lamp independently of the electrical system using a DC-DC converter (48 > 12 V / 3 A). This will be connected to the 48 V output of the battery (Wicket Cable with Y-splitter). This will also allow the P5 boost input to be operated and the 3,000 lm to be used in headlight mode. The headlight mode is operated via the supplied button.

ST3 Pinion with EDS-MC3 controller
The ST3 Pinion use the EDS-MC3 controller and ST5 distribution board, and have a JST 4-pin cable labeled «M99». This may not apply to the Limited Edition (LE) which has a different controller.Source)

ST7
Since November 2023, the ST7 models have also been receiving the M99 Pro 2. The prerequisite is an EDS-MC3 controller (Stromer part no. 404320), which has been installed in the ST7 since May 25, 2023. You can check the controller type in Omni under MENU > SYSTEM > INFO > PERIPHERALS. There is also a corresponding entry in the service menu in Omni, which can be used to select the headlight. However, this does not confirm that the «Pro 2 controller» is also installed.

ST2S / ST5 with M99 Pro
Since the 3,000 lumens of the M99 Pro 2 cannot be used due to controller power limitations, it is limited to 1,600 or 1,870 lumens (depending on the source). The light output is about the same as the M99 Pro – an upgrade is not worth it.
Supernova M99 Pro - Retrofit as a «Stand-alone Solution»
The conversion shown here works with an M99 Pro E1 with a Higo-6 connector. The 48 V operating voltage is drawn via a Y-adapter at the Wicket Cable (in the bottom bracket area) and routed through a relay, which in turn is switched by the original front light's 12 V (6 V). This allows the Supernova to be switched on and off identically to the original light. The green and yellow cables are the connections for the CAN bus and are not used. The high beam switch in the control ring cannot therefore be used. The small circuit board with the relay is powered by Magikweis described. The placement can be done on models with Omni in the top tube or on older models in the bottom bracket. Supernova M99 Pro 2
In the fall of 2023, Supernova introduced the successor to the M99 Pro, the M99 Pro 2.
In addition to the increase in light output (the strongest in the bike industry) and a revised design, the real innovations are on the back of the lamp. There are now a total of five new slots for various connection options.
- Slot 1: is intended for connection to the power supply of the e-bike system
- Slots 2 and 3: can be freely assigned. Devices such as a smartphone, a navigation device, a horn, or heated grips can be connected to the headlight.
- Slot 4: the high beam button is connected to this slot
- Slot 5: is an additional 12V power boost input, which can draw even more current. This is needed, for example, when the main beam is used to illuminate the road with the full 3,000 lumens and slot 1 does not provide sufficient wattage.

Supernova M99 Pro 2 Stromer Custom

The lamp shown here has a plug type JST with 3 pins and is specially manufactured for Stromer. It does not have CAN bus and is connected instead of the Roxim Z4E (12 V, 0 V, High Beam = grey, black, green). The 1:1 exchange only works with Stromer models with an EDC-MC3 controller, such as the ST3 and ST5 Pinion or the ST7 (from November 2023).
The minimum power provided at terminal P1 must be 8 W for low beam and 12 W for high beam. For the high beam with 3,000 lumens, 35 W are required. For this, the power boost input P5 must be connected to a 12 V source. All current models are generally unable to operate the boost input!

Modi of Supernova M99 Pro 2
The Supernova M99 Pro 2 is delivered in Mode 1. Only this mode works with e-bikes when the corresponding controller ports are used. If you want to use the Power Boost, an additional 12V power supply is required at port 5 of the Supernova. This voltage must be generated separately, for example with a DC-DC converter.

Conversion of my ST3 (Year 2019) from Roxim to Supernova M99 Pro 2
The project lay dormant for a long time. Since September 2025, my ST3 has been equipped with the Supernova M99 Pro 2 and 3,000 lm in headlight mode.
I opted for the classic conversion with an electrical system independent of the power supply. A direct connection to the Roxim Z4E Pro's cable would also have been possible. However, the power supply's output is insufficient to power the M99 Pro 2 in headlight mode (Boost).
I implemented the power supply for the new DC-DC converter directly from the 48 V battery output using a Y-splitter. I routed the power cable upwards into the stem within the battery compartment. In the top tube, beneath the Omni, I placed the small relay circuit that feeds the P1 and P5 inputs of the Supernova and ensures synchronization with the on/off behavior of the Roxim. Mounting the Supernova is a 1:1 replacement. The mount for the old Roxim on the handlebar fits the Supernova.

In the «standalone solution» above, the integration into the Stromer electrical system (CAN bus) is missing, meaning the headlight cannot be controlled via the control ring on the handlebars.
In specific Facebook groups, «EV specialists» argued about whether integration into the vehicle's electrical system was possible or not.
Then it was said:
Hey! Hey! HeyCurrently, it is not possible to use the M99 Pro. On the one hand, a different wiring harness is required, and on the other hand, suitable software. If you unplug the Roxim lighting, you will receive an error message. In addition, the M99 is controlled via CAN bus. However, there is currently no software that can control the M99 in an ST3. Basically: not possible. People have done it in the past with older Stromer models (check this topic: https://www.speedpedelecreview.comBUT: the ST3 PINION has a newer controller, a different voltage than the M99 PRO, you have to install an additional CAN bus connector, and the ST3 software causes errors/problems because it doesn't recognize the other headlight. One way or another: Don't start tinkering with your expensive Stromer during the warranty period. If you mess things up (which you likely will), your warranty is void, and Stromer won't support you because you modified your Stromer (even illegally). Which I totally understand; it's not their mess, and you tried to install a non-original part.
