ST3 - Di2 - retrofit electronic shifting from Shimano

The Shimano Deore XT RD-M8000-GS rear derailleur fitted to the ST3 shifts well, without a doubt. However, if you want it to be even more precise and efficient, there's no getting around electronic shifting.

My conversion (ST3):

I opted for the version installed in the ST2S:

The Shimano XTR rear derailleur fitted to the ST5 is not necessary, as it essentially only differs from the much cheaper Shimano XTR rear derailleur in terms of weight. Shimano Deore XT Di2 M8050/ 1×11-fold is different. As a gearshift, the Deore XT Di2 SW-M8050-R can be used. Likewise, the SW-E7000-R Shift paddle or the shift lever installed on the ST2S SW-S705.

Parts list Shimano for ST3 / M / Sport:

  • Shift lever right | Alfine Di2 shifter SW-S705
  • Information display | Deore XT SC-MT800
  • Rear derailleur - mid-length 11-speed | Deore XT Di2 RD-M8050-GS
  • Battery | BT-DN110 (in the top tube, below Omni)
  • Charger for SM-BTR2 + BT-DN110 (battery / display)
  • eTube cable | EW-SD50 | 150 mm (display - switch)
  • eTube cable | EW-SD50 | 550 mm (display - battery)
  • eTube cable | EW-SD50 | 1600 mm (display - rear derailleur)

Price tag: bike24.de: 546 € (03/2020)

The conversion is not easy. Removing the battery compartment, OMNI and rear wheel, as well as opening the stem, are mandatory. Inexperienced DIY'ers are better off going to a specialist dealer.

Adjusting the gearshift

Before the Di2 shifts smoothly, it must be adjusted correctly. You can find out how to do this in the SHIFTING - SHIMANO - section. 'Set gearshift' .
