Use Trace

With the firmware SUI FW 4.3.8.5 (16.3.2022), the Service menu of the Stromer, a new 'USE TRACE' switch has been added. The function is switched on by default.

Stromer describes the function as follows:

The sensor value is now monitored and adjusted to ensure consistent assistance. It also detects whether pedaling is actually taking place during the ride. For safety reasons, the assistance is deactivated if no pedaling is detected

Feedback after the introduction showed that the update apparently did not have the desired effect on all models and even worsened support. While riders of the ST2 (pre-2019) and older models reported rather good results, the newer models (ST3 / ST5) seemed to experience counterproductive effects. The support tended to be weaker, the displayed top speed of approx. 48.7 km/h was barely reached and the lock-up began earlier. Recalibrating helped to some extent.

After a few self-experiments, I have come to the conclusion to use 'Use Trace' with my ST3. I can't see any disadvantages. Overall, the support control seems a bit more stable to me, which is probably the purpose of the function.

I have now switched Use Trace back on in my ST3 because I find the acceleration smoother. I get off to a good start with the slightest pressure on the pedal and then continuous red up to 45, followed by a black, decreasing bar up to 48.5. I consume approx. 14 Wh/km in hardcore city traffic with lots of traffic lights and obstacles, but I also only weigh 70 kg (and ride at 2.5 bar front and rear). I also have the feeling that the new update copes better with short-term voltage deviations or somehow readjusts them. But that's all half-knowledge and feeling... but I think the response is much better than with Klever
