Current range

How far can I get with my Stromer?

The question of range is as old as (S-)pedelecs themselves – to get straight to the point: there isn't a simple answer. Stromer has delivered various battery models with different nominal capacities and nominal voltages in its model range since 2009. The motors have also evolved: torque and nominal power have been increased, as has the Weight of the currents and the wheels switched from 26″ to 27.5″ rims.

Stromer publishes general information on the range of its S-Pedelecs.

The 2019 version shows areas that indicate a minimum and maximum range.

The 2022 version of Stromer only shows the maximum range.

Stromer stated in their 2013 model catalog that this was determined with a rider weighing 70 kg and a pedal sensor setting (torque sensor) of 30 %.


As listed under „General,“ many parameters influence the possible range. If the elevation gain is reduced, the system weight is lower, and if you set the torque sensor to 80 %, there will certainly be more range. If you have a lot of headwind, many stops & goes, or if it's winter, the range will decrease. Ultimately, it's a matter of experience and takes some time until the bike and rider are a good team and you roughly know whether you'll ride home or walk home.

So the range figures should not be taken at face value. As in the automotive industry, they are more theoretical in nature – achievable under certain conditions, but usually not in general driving practice. However, it is not impossible.

The torque sensor setting:

With this setting, you can regulate the overall support on a Stromer across all riding modes. In the Omni app, this is under Configuration → Sensors → Cadence Sensor, and in the Omni, it's under Menu → Bike → Torque. Sens.

The application for the top models ST5/ST7 differs slightly from the rest of the model range.

While a sensor value of 100 %is sensible for the maximum rider experience on the ST1, ST2, and ST3, a setting of 80 %is recommended for the ST5/ST7. This achieves roughly the same performance as the other models at 100 % sensor. To get 100 % of the support, the Sport mode [S] is also available. It always sets the sensor value to 100 % , regardless of the other setting.

Practical experience

My experience with an ST3 and new BQ983 battery is as follows:

However, you probably sacrifice the Stromer driving pleasure, should only be 75 kg light, set the torque sensor to 30% and select drive level 1. The battery must also be virtually new. With the Stromer, you are therefore on the borderline of a biobike. Is that what you want?

And what about the ST7's new battery?

At the „Stromer Universe Basel“ on August 22, 2021, Stromer introduced the ST 2022 (ST7) prototype with the new BQ1440 Wh battery. According to the brochure, this should allow for 260 km. As Tomi Viiala (then Co-CEO of myStromer AG) mentions in the video, the range melts away to approx. 100 km when riding with full support (All In).

Feedback in the forums (as of 03/2023) does not quite confirm this range. With "All In" it is said to be only 80–90 km. The range is more realistic at level 1. The Stromer rider Stefan Scheer reported on June 1, 2023, that after 161 km (of which 95% in Stage 1), as well as 1,220 vertical meters, he still had 46% of battery remaining.

There is also a Range test of YouTuber ‚Black Max‘, who tested the ST7 on a winter's day on his work route of 70 km each way. To get straight to the point. The battery managed it, even if it got pretty tight.
