Stromer engines with a battered surface coating can often be seen in the forums. There are relatively many posts in which the ST3 is affected, which is probably due to the statistics, as it is one of the most popular models in the Stromer model range.
The problem itself has existed for some time and also affects other models. TDCM, the motor manufacturer, always seems to have a quality problem with the surface coating of the Stromer motor.
The problem is further accentuated for year-round riders who are out and about in all weathers and on salted roads in winter. If the bike is not cleaned after every ride, corrosion damage occurs even more frequently. This usually starts at the spoke holes or the parting line that runs through the center of the motor drum.
Some of the damage is probably due to an incorrect washing method with a cleaner that is too harsh.

Motors with powder coating will reappear on newer electric vehicles from 2024. TDCM has already done this in the past. The new coating is supposed to be more resistant to corrosive influences. Time will tell whether this is the case.

Guarantee? Feedback has shown that it is worth having the dealer submit a warranty replacement to Stromer. Stromer is usually accommodating.
No guarantee: If the engine is out of warranty, a DIY or professional solution is possible. In addition to repainting, professional providers also offer to repair the engine mounts, Hall sensors and temperature sensor.
